EastEnders 2019 spoilers: Sharon Mitchell’s affair exposed, Hunter Owen's explosive exit, Stuart's deadly revenge and Dr Legg's heartbreaking death and more for the new year

With a new soap boss in the former of former Coronation Street and Emmerdale executive producer Kate Oates, the soap is pulling out all the stops to bring the drama and here's what viewers can expect from it in 2019.

Sharon and Keanu exposed

Walford is going to be horrified this year when Sharon Mitchell's affair with hunky Keanu Taylor is exposed.

"We’re going to be playing more of that amazing love triangle that Keanu has fallen into," boss Kate Oates revealed.

And she hinted it could blow up even more as Louise Mitchell develops feelings for Keanu after their recent fling.

Kate added: "It’s going to get really messy, Sharon does not know what she’s unleashed but maybe she won’t be the one who ends up with his heart, so we’ll see how that ends up."

At least Phil Mitchell is known to be reasonable and won't overreact when he discovers Keanu has slept with both his wife and his daughter…

Hunter Owen's exit

Hunter Owen will leave Albert Square this year – one way or another.

Actor Charlie Winter has already filmed his final scenes and was told by bosses that his contract will not be renewed but on-screen he's set for a dramatic exit involving a police chase, a fight with Jack Branning and possibly another murder.

All this for killing his stepdad Ray Kelly, no good deed goes unpunished.

Dr Legg's death

EastEnders viewers will want to be reaching for the tissues in the spring when beloved legend Dr Legg dies.

Dot Branning is going to have everyone bawling as she says a final goodbye to her old friend and the show will be bringing back some original characters to help give him the send off he deserves.

Mary the Punk and Lofty will make brief comebacks for the sad scenes but it is set to make unmissable television.

Chantelle Baker's coming

Karen Taylor has been transformed in EastEnders from a brash, feckless single mother to one of the most valuable characters the show has.

And now we're going to meet her estranged eldest daughter when she makes her way to Walford to reunite with her family.

But how will she react when she finds the state her family are in and more importantly – who's going to play her?

Ruby's justice and her emergence as a villain

Ruby Allen had a traumatic 2018 when she was raped by two vile men who then tried to get away with it.

But this year the daughter of Johnny Allen is going to emerge stronger and ready to fight for justice in court.

However soap boss Kate has hinted viewers will begin to see the other side of Ruby – the daughter of one of the East End's most feared criminal gang bosses.

Could she take the law into her own hands and deal with her rapists another way?

Lola Pearce

Kate Oates is planning on bringing back three EastEnders legends this year as part of her plans to revamp the soap.

The first announced comeback is Lola Pearce and her daughter Lexi but she's not going to be a scared teenager anymore.

Instead she's going to be a fiercely protective mother when she returns and reunites with her granddad Billy Mitchell.

And it could also mean a return for Ben Mitchell, especially with his daughter back in the Square.

The Ahmed sisters

The granddaughters of Mariam and Arshad are going to make quite the entrance to Albert Square this year.

Described as "a force to be reckoned with" soap bosses promises the girls will "stop at nothing to get what they want" which should ruffle a few feathers in Walford.

Ex-Hollyoaks actress Rukku Nahar, 22, and British Bollywood star Priya Davdra, 31, have been signed up to cause trouble as Habiba and Iqra Ahmed.

Stuart's revenge

Stuart Highway isn't the most stable of people at the best of times so Mick Carter made a massive mistake in not killing him when he had the chance.

Instead a bloody and bruised Stuart managed to convince poor old Dot Branning to take him into her home so he can recover and plot his revenge on Mick and the rest of the Carters.

It's going to be explosive and possibly deadly…

Tiffany's terror

Viewers have watched as Tiffany Butcher has been drawn slowly into the drugs gang but next year it's going to be ramped up to 11.

The teenager is going to find herself in even more danger as gang leader Evie strengthens her hold over her forcing Whitney and Bernadette to fight against her for Tiffany's life.

And there could even be a much-wanted return for Bianca because surely she wouldn't leave her daughter to suffer alone?
