EastEnders Shane Ritchie hints at romance between Alfie Moon and Linda Carter

Eastenders comeback star Shane Richie has hinted at a possible new love interest for his character Alfie Moon following his upcoming return to the Square.

The 58 year old is set to arrive back on the BBC soap on 12 September as old flame Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace) marries Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Alfie attempts to win Kat back on the day of her wedding, however unexpectedly finds a connection between himself and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) in a surprising turn.

Shane revealed ahead of his appearance: “Alfie's still burning the candle for Kat and he's trying to convince Kat that she feels the same.

"But now, between us lot…Alfie and Linda….That's all I'm going to say! But is Alfie using Linda to get to Kat?"

Linda is currently embroiled in a major storyline involving her ex husband Mick (Danny Dyer) and his girlfriend Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), that might see Alfie possibly become part of, if their hinted love connection grows.

Shane, who left the role of Alfie in January 2019 after he secretly fathered a son with Kat’s cousin Hayley, discussed how he was convinced to return to the character by producers as they promised to bring the ‘old Alfie” back.

“I got the phone call and (executive producer Chris Clenshaw) sold it to me,” Shane said.

“He said he wanted the old Alfie. Over the years there have been different Alfies and my favourite Alfie is from 2002 to 2005 and that’s the Alfie we got back.

“Chris was instrumental in telling me the long-term story line with Alfie, the old Alfie, the guy who looked after his Nana Moon, wore his heart on his sleeve and tried to make light of everything but through his own innocence and naivety still gets it wrong.”

Alfie is set to cause a stir as he makes his return — and an enemy out of Phil, following his arrival on his wedding day to Kat.

Despite the tension, Shane insisted that Alfie’s comeback won’t bring all doom and gloom, as he added: “The drama only works on a show like this if you get the light and the shade – I’m happy to come in and bring the lightness.

“I am happy to come and play the joker because that means the drama is so much greater.”

Will Kat’s head be turned when Alfie arrives? Will he be distracted by Linda before then?

Viewers will find out soon enough as Alfie returns to EastEnders on 12 September on BBC One.
