Emmerdale fans gobsmacked as Debbie Dingle is confirmed as Al’s mystery woman

Emmerdale viewers were left stunned after Christmas Day's hour-long episode, as it was confirmed that Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) was Al Chapman's (Michael Wildman) mystery woman.

For weeks now, soap fans have been speculating about who the other woman could be, with some suggesting it was Kim Tate (Claire King), Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) or perhaps a secret daughter away from the village.

But in a major twist, it was revealed to be Debbie Dingle, who has been away in Scotland for months, as actress Charley Webb was on maternity leave.

Taking to Twitter, viewers couldn't believe their eyes after the mystery woman's identity was confirmed.

One said: "The way me and my mum just gasped."

Another tweeted: "OMG OMG OMG! I didnt know Debs was coming back yet?"

A third wrote: "OMG. Shocked Al is seeing Debbie."

Someone else commented: "Finally, she's back and looking f***ing stunning!"

And a fifth added: "Klaxon! Debbie Dingle is Al's mystery woman!"

While Debbie being Al's other woman may come as a surprise to some viewers, her return to the soap will not.

She was featured in the recently released Emmerdale Christmas trailer, confirming that she would be making a big return to the soap.

And some took her return to mean that she would be revealed as Al's lover, suggesting the soap could be spoiling its own big festive storyline.

Of course, despite the slight mess-up, it did nothing to take away any of the drama from the Christmas Day reveal.

Al had been speaking to Debbie on the phone while spending the day with fiancé Priya (Fiona Wade) and her family, saying he'd get away to see her as soon as he could.

And he finally skulked off and met her, with viewers getting to see who he'd been texting all along.

Emmerdale continues Monday at 7pm on ITV
