Emmerdale star promises big twist in Sarah Sugden's health storyline

Emmerdale‘s Sarah Sugden might have agreed to have the heart transplant that will save her life, but it seems as though her surgery will just be the beginning of her story.

Not long after Sarah’s onscreen mum hinted at “emotional” scenes ahead, Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, has promised fans a “big twist” is on the horizon.

While appearing on today’s (August 28) This Morning, Matthew – Debbie Dingle’s real-life husband – said that the storyline’s upcoming “twist” is going to be “absolutely brilliant”.

Teasing a dramatic conclusion to Sarah’s ongoing health storyline, Matthew added: “It’s coming up in three or four weeks. A big twist.”

Earlier this month, Charley Webb gave Emmerdale fans their biggest clue yet that Sarah’s story is far from over as she revealed she was set to shoot “more emotional scenes”.

Given that Emmerdale films between six and eight weeks in advance, this would suggest that Sarah’s story will be continuing well into the autumn.

Of course the big question is, will there be a happy ending for the Dingle family? Or is there more tragedy ahead?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
