Emmerdale’s real-life soap families as secret siblings and cousins uncovered

Emmerdale is constantly full of family drama from steamy affairs to almighty bust-ups.

Despite the ups and downs between the village residents and their loved ones, the colourful characters always tend to remember that blood is thicker than water.

Fans of the ITV soap might be surprised to discover just how many actors share the screen with their real-life family members.

It is often the case that relatives of soap stars have joined rival soaps but now and again they have to act opposite each other.

Here are just a few family members that have acted on-screen together.

Amy and Sally Walsh

Actress Amy Walsh joined the cast of Emmerdale as David Metcalfe's estranged wife Tracy Metcalfe in 2014.

The character of Tracy was introduced as a love interest for Sam Dingle (James Hooton) after they chatted via an adult chat line.

Her sister Sally played the part of Lyn Hutchinson in the same soap between 1997 and 2000.

Sally previously said playing the role of Lyn was "like coming home in a way" because she had previously worked with co-stars Steve Halliwell, who plays Zak Dingle and Will Cairns actor Paul Fox before.

The pair also have a third famous sister, former Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh.

Kimberley had her first taste of fame appearing in an advert as a child along with sister Sally in an Asda advert.

Charley Webb and Jamie Lomas

Charley Webb has played the role of Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale since 2002.

The fan favourite has been part of some of the soaps biggest storylines, including getting pregnant by Andy Sugden with her first child at 15.

The actress is married to fellow Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, and the couple share three children.

Charley's older brother Jamie Lomas has also made his way into the world of soaps playing Hollyoaks bad boy Warren Fox.

Jamie, who shares a child with former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh, has played the village villain on-off since 2006.

The actor also had a brief spell in EastEnders as Jake Stone before returning to Hollyoaks in January this year.

Danny Webb and Lucy Webb

Charley and Jamie are not the only members of the Webb family to appear in Emmerdale.

The pair's younger brother and sister Danny Lucy Webb have also appeared in the Yorkshire village.

Lucy played baby Jon Dingle from 2004 until 2007.

Danny played the first Aaron Livesy from 2003 until 2006.

When Aaron was reintroduced in 2008, he was promoted to the full-time cast and the decision was made to recast the role.

The character, now known as Aaron Dingle, is currently played by actor Danny Miller.

Adam and Ryan Thomas

Adam Thomas joined the cast of Emmerdale as Adam Barton in 2009 and played the role for nine years until 2018.

Adam's older brother Ryan portrayed the role of Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street from 2000 until 2016 and he went on to play the role of Rafael Humphreys in Neighbours.

The brothers have also shared their love for reality television with Ryan winning the 22nd and final series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2018 and Adam entering the I'm A Celebrity jungle in 2016.

Adam's twin brother Scott is also in the limelight after appearing on the second series of ITV2 dating show Love Island in 2016.

The trio have recently joined together on TV for the first time in a quest to learn about their Indian heritage for a new documentary, Mancs in Mumbai.

Jill and Chelsea Halfpenny

It's not just brothers and sisters who occasionally bump into each other in Soapland.

Emmerdale actress Chelsea Halfpenny played Amy Wyatt in the ITV soap for three years from 2010.

Natalie Ann Jamieson has since took over the role of Amy.

Chelsea's aunt Jill Halfpenny played no-nonsense police officer Kate Morton in rival soap EastEnders from 2002 until 2005.

She stayed in Walford for three years until 2005 where her alter-ego ended up having a steamy romance with Albert Square hard man Phil Mitchell.
