Game of Thrones: ‘F**k you’ Daenerys Targaryen star on her battle against nude scenes

Game of Thrones Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) had multiple nude scenes, especially in the first season of the show. One of Daenerys’ first on screen appearances saw her derobed by her brother Vicerys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd) before she was sold to the Dothraki to marry Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) which inevitably led to more nudity. However, the star has since revealed she wasn’t always comfortable with these types of scenes.

In an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Emilia Clarke has revealed that she has become “a lot more savvy about what I’m comfortable with, and what I am OK with doing,” since she rose to fame in the HBO fantasy series.

What’s more, the star even recalled having fights on set of other projects, who tried to tell her she would “disappoint Game of Thrones fans” if she failed to comply.

Explaining the situation, the star said: “I’m like, ‘No, the sheet stays up,’ and they’re like, ‘You don’t want to disappoint your Game of Thrones fans,’ and I’m like, ‘F**k you.’”

Reflecting on the time when she first joined Game of Thrones “fresh from drama school” the star revealed she saw the nude scenes as “a catch”, after being asked to do several of them right away.

The star added: “Season 1 was what it was. It was a f**k tonne of nudity… it was definitely hard.”

However, the star revealed she felt looked after on the Game of Thrones set, and credits Khal Drogo star Jason Momoa, who played her on screen husband in season one.

The actress spoke out about Momoa’s protection of her, revealing he made sure she had a robe to wear in between takes.

She added: “He took care of me, in an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of… It’s only now that I realise how fortunate I was with that.”

However, the actress had a different outlook on nudity when it came to the later seasons.

Emilia’s last nude scene as Daenerys took place in the season six episode Book of the Stranger, when the character emerged from a fire untouched.

Emilia added: “as Daenerys built in stature, I had to do less of that stuff,”

“when I did the last nudity that I did for the show, yeah, I was like, ‘I am owning this. This is mine. They’ve asked me to do it, and you know what? I’m f**king game.’”

“In the very first episode you think he’s toast – he’s dead,” he said, in reference to his huge fall in season one that left the young Bran paralysed from the waist down.

Fans will remember the fall in season one that left Bran in a wheelchair, after Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) pushed him from a tower after he was spotted having an incestuous relationship with Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

However, the star revealed this only helped him grow into the King he became by the end of the final season.

The star went on: “He grows and learns the hard way about a lot of things. He goes from being this traditionally vulnerable character to the most powerful person there is.”

“I was pretty happy with just him becoming the Three-Eyed Raven, but what a great story where this boy, this disabled 10-year-old in the harshest world ever, [comes] to triumph.”
