Gemma Collins and Monty Panesar cause culinary chaos in possibly the funniest episode of Celebrity MasterChef

Tonight’s episode of Celebrity MasterChef (September 7) might just have been the funniest ever, as Gemma Collins and Monty Panesar caused culinary chaos.

Following the elimination of Chizzy Akudolu earlier this week, Gemma, Monty, Stefanie Reid and Zoe Lyons battled it out for a place in the semi-finals.

First up was the pairs challenge, and it wasn’t long before Gemma and Monty were cracking up viewers with their kitchen antics. Even the eliminated Chizzy couldn’t help but laugh.

“Is it bad that I’m laughing at some of my fellow contestants..?” she wrote on Twitter.

Monty’s first major blunder of the episode came when he attempted to make breadcrumbs by blending the bread with egg, naturally leaving him with what looked regurgitated potatoes.

And when Gemma tried to make a béarnaise sauce, she didn’t realise she was only meant to use the yolk or, as she called it, “the orange bit”.

In hysterics, viewers called for Monty and Gemma to be paired together, with some describing the episode as “some of the best TV” they’d ever seen.

The two of them caused further chaos in the second challenge, as they prepared lunch for 120 members of staff at British Airways Learning Academy. Gemma repeatedly recruited the help of an extra to assist her in peeling 50 potatoes, while Monty’s incredible lack of knowledge frustrated the head chef.

It probably comes as no surprise, then, that after the final task, Gemma and Monty were the ones sent packing, failing to impress with a sea bass and biryani curry respectively.

On her elimination, Gemma said: “I’ve had a brilliant time – it will be a relief to cook without John and Gregg around.”

While Monty added: “From where I started to where I am now, I made a lot of progress. I couldn’t have done any better.”

Celebrity MasterChef continues next Thursday (September 13) at 8pm on BBC One, with its final five celebs: actor Lisa Maxwell, professional dancer AJ Pritchard, furniture restorer Jay Blades, international recording artist Stella Parton, and DJ and broadcaster Clara Amfo
