Gogglebox Reverend Kate Bottley cruelly branded ‘thick’ by co-star on The Chase
In an outrageous swipe, Gogglebox star Reverend Kate Bottley was branded "thick" by one of her teammates during The Chase Celebrity Special on Wednesday night.
The 45-year-old vicar, who left the cast of Gogglebox in 2016, made it to the second round of the competition, facing the Chaser Jenny Ryan.
However, when she turned to her teammates for some helpful advice, comedian Ed Byrne had a few harsh words for her.
Ed admitted he knew Kate long before their appearance on The Chase, having filmed a BBC series named Pilgrimage: The Road to Santiago together.
The Irish comic explained: "You and I know each other. We spent a number of weeks together trekking through Spain."
In a cheeky dig, he then remarked: "And if there’s one thing I know about you, it’s that you are thick."
Kate's mouth fell open in shock, while Chaser Jenny threw her head back and burst out laughing.
Luckily, the former Gogglebox star took the joke in good humour, and replied: "True, true."
Ed made it clear he was joking, and went on: "I'll start again. Kate, that was a fantastic performance. And there was a lot of questions there that I didn’t know the answer to and I feel that you did.
"I feel our knowledge will complement each other's knowledge."
The Mock of the Week star then encouraged Kate to plump for the middle offer of £7,000 – advice she took on board.
Kate then proved she had a tremendous knack for quizzing, sailing through to the final round with thousands of pounds for the prize pot.
Funnyman Ed, Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, and ITV's resident doctor Ranj Singh competed next, hoping to add to their kitty.
Earning a whopping £90,000, the celeb contestants managed to beat the Chasers in the final round – meaning the generous sum of money went to the wonderful charities of their choosing.
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
