Maisie Smith is the youngest contestant to be taking part on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing but she’s certainly proving one of the most popular amongst fans. The EastEnders star has remained at the top of the bookmakers’ favourites to take the coveted Glitterball Trophy with Gorka Marquez as the pair’s performances go from strength-to-strength. On Saturday night’s show, Gorka admitted the 19-year-old was like his “little sister” – and joked of the teen’s secret weakness, telling Claudia Winkleman: “She doesn’t listen!”

Last weekend, the pair scored 24 points with their stunning American Smooth performed to Idina Menzel’s ‘Into the Unknown.’

Their dance was met by a flood of positive comments from the judging panel.

The pair were confirmed to be safe for another week in the competition on last night’s results show as they turn their hand back to Latin for week four.

However, Maisie opened up on her nerves ahead of her upcoming routine during Saturday night’s episode.

When they whizzed through Claudia’s conveyor belt of stars, she told them: “You’re going back to Latin next week the Cha Cha.

“When you first arrived, you were like, ‘I’m a Latin girl, I’m not so sure about this,’ Are you quite excited?”

Maisie soon expressed her excitement, saying: “I can’t wait, I’m acting like it’s a weight off my shoulders but it’s not, it’s still going to be hard.”

However, with Gorka clearly putting her through some tough training, she added: “But with this guy, it’s still going to be hard whatever the dance is!”

Turning her attention back to Maisie’s partner, Claudia remarked: “I love you both! Gorka, you have a little sister, don’t you?”

“Yeah, she’s [Maisie] like… I always wanted to have a little sister, she’s like my little one.”

However, he joked: “Sometimes she doesn’t listen like sisters but, you know!”

Claudia reminded him: “That’s what happens with sisters,” before Gorka joked to Maisie: “I didn’t see you, sorry!”

The host wished them the best of luck for their next performance which will see them perform the same style of dance that won Maisie her Children in Need special trophy last year.

But will they manage to climb their way back to the top of the leaderboard after GMB’s Ranvir Singh flew ahead?

Maisie was also reunited with her own sister on Saturday night after Claudia surprised the contestant with a family reunion via video-link.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, Maisie has been living alone in order to take part in the show.

And Claudia reunited her with her parents, sister and beloved dog Betty, which caused her to become tearful.

Elsewhere, there is a new favourite to take the crown in the form of comedian Bill Bailey, whose odds now stand at 7/4 to win.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Bill’s odds have continued to tumble since week one and he’s beginning to look a shoo-in for this year’s Strictly crown.”

But who will make it all the way to the final of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing?

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7:10pm on BBC One.
