Here's how Luke Cage season 2 pays tribute to late star Reg E Cathey

Luke Cage season two sadly features one of the last on-screen performances of The Wire and House of Cards star Reg E Cathey.

Cathey appears in several episodes of season two as Luke’s father James Lucas and the finale episode ends with a title card paying tribute to the late actor, which reads: “In Memoriam. Reg E Cathey. Forward Always.”

Cathey passed away in February 2018 at the age of 59 after reportedly battling cancer, with Luke Cage co-star Mike Colter paying his tribute to the actor on Twitter.

“Go gentle into that good night my brother. It was an honor spending time with you on set. Getting to know you as a person and an artist. You will be missed. Condolences to your family. I salute you,” he wrote.

Talking to Variety, Colter also recently reflected on Cathey’s time on set filming season two earlier this year. “He started getting sick on location and he dealt with it in a very regal and exceptional manner,” he explained.

“His professionalism taught me a lot about how to carry yourself. He taught me a lot about life, about being an artist. We knew some people in common from years back. One of my acting teachers was one of his classmates at Yale. Just connecting that way – I really enjoyed his company.”

Luke Cage season two is now available to watch on Netflix.
