Hollyoaks’ McQueens in blackmail horror and Kurt Benson returns from the dead

It's Hollyoaks' 25th birthday bash next week and the McQueens are spooked by the arrival of a macabre doll sent by a blackmailer to demand money before all their darkest secrets are unveiled.

When Nana McQueen (Diane Langton) calls for help, Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Theresa (Jorgie McQueen) race to The Dog to find a spooky doll standing pride of place on the bar.

The electronic doll reads out the seven deadly sins and explains that if they don't pay, each of their biggest secrets will be revealed and they'll go to jail.

The first sin will be "wrath" but who does it belong to and who's watching the McQueens?

Sylver (David Tag) realises later in the week that "wrath" must be about him killing his mum Breda McQueen earlier this year but he's desperate not to go back to prison.

Mercedes asks James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) for the money to pay the blackmailer as compensation for shooting her last year.

Sylver thinks he's saved when James transfers the money, until PC George Kiss (Callum Kerr) turns up to arrest him for the murder of Breda.

The devilish doll comes back to life and asks the McQueens to guess who the blackmailer is, but if they're wrong the consequences will be severe.

Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) gets flustered when he bumps into his ex Theresa.

It's clear there's still an attraction between them, but Joel doesn't want her ruining his future with Goldie (Chelsee Healey) . Will Theresa listen?

Later in the week, Mercedes refuses to be threatened and decides that she wants to meet the blackmailer armed wearing her signature red dress – but someone's watching the McQueens as they party their worries away at The Dog.

Meanwhile, heartbroken Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) is curious to be invited on a mystery date with the "love of his life".

Hoping that it could be Diane, Tony is floored to see his old best friend Kurt Benson (Jeremy Edwards) walk through the doors of the Hutch despite dying 19 years ago.

Kurt is clearly still alive and has a lot of explaining to do to a shocked Tony, Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson), Mandy Richardson (Sarah Jayne Dunn) and Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring).

Elsewhere, drug boss Victor Brothers (Benjamin O'Mahoney) tells Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Backshaw) to recruit more dealers.

He spots little Ella (Erin Palmer) in the village and orders Juliet to get her on board.

Ella is filmed giving drugs to Charlie Dean (Charlie Behan) by Juliet and quickly discovers that she's already trapped in the dark world.

Juliet gets nasty when the schoolgirl refuses to work for her and threatens her family.

Sid Sumner (Billy Price) is disgusted that Juliet has recruited young Ella but Victor threatens him to keep his opinions to himself and Juliet takes Victor's side against her friend.

Love is in the air for Tom Cunnigham (Ells Hollins) and Yazz Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) as she unveils a big romantic gesture – a recorded video love letter featuring every inhabitant of Hollyoaks village.

He's overwhelmed, feeling a sense of belonging despite losing so many people that he loved.

Yazz promises that she won't get bored of him and proposes – but what will he say?

It looks like little Tom is all grown up.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by a first look episode on E4 at 7pm
