I’m a Celeb star AJ Pritchard confirmed for 2020 series after coronavirus battle
I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! have confirmed Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Prichard will "dance his way into camp" after rumours he would be replaced by Chelcee Grimes.
It was reported that the 26-year-old professional dancer "tested positive for coronavirus" a matter of days before he was due to take part in the show.
Singer and footballer Chelcee Grimes was rumoured to be his replacement, according to The Sun, but it looks like AJ will be entering the Welsh castle after all.
The show's official Twitter page promoted the Strictly star as one of their confirmed contestants, saying he will "dance his way into camp".
They shared a photograph of AJ in his I'm a Celeb gear, writing alongside the snap: "He's leaving his fake tan, jazz hands and glitter behind but we're hoping he brings those ballroom moves with him – it's not long until @Aj11Ace will be dancing his way into Camp! #ImACeleb".
The photo introduces AJ to fans of the show, and reveals his phobias are "heights and claustrophobia".
AJ told Mirror Online : "Let's get this out of the way. When I came into isolation, I tested positive for Covid early on.
"Thankfully, I can say I've had two negative tests for coronavirus and I will definitely be going into the castle when it starts.
"For me, thank you to ITV and the whole team for putting the safety measures in place to protect their staff and the celebrities, that's why we do go into isolation.
"It's been over two weeks already I've been in isolation. I can't wait to start my journey.”
He added: "The key thing is we create the safest possible workplace for crew, cast and our hosts."
The celebrities taking part in the hotly anticipated new series began self-isolating two weeks ago and will form a bubble once the series starts on Sunday.
I'm A Celebrity kicks off on ITV on Sunday at 9pm
