James Arthur complains of technical issues during X Factor performance

During the first part of The X Factor live final on Saturday (December 1), we were treated to a duet between former X Factor winner James Arthur and singer-songwriter Anne-Marie.

The pair’s cover of ‘Rewrite the Stars’ from The Greatest Showman: Reimagined received a mixed response from viewers watching at home, while James Arthur didn’t look too pleased with his performance either.

Some viewers felt that James underperformed when compared to the performances of this year’s finalists, Anthony Russell, Dalton Harris and Scarlett Lee:

Meanwhile, James looked visibly uncomfortable on stage during parts of the performance, and he admitted on Twitter that the song was marred by technical issues and “not the mix we would’ve liked you to hear”.

“Thanks for the nice comments about mine and @AnneMarie performance!” he began. “However I don’t know why they had crowd mics blaring throughout and vocal levels all over.. not the mix we would’ve liked you to hear.”

He was immediately backed up by Rylan Clark-Neal, who was an X Factor contestant himself in the year James won, finishing 5th before going on to win Celebrity Big Brother.

“Knew the second u started you had a problem with ur ears,” Rylan replied. “Still smashed it brother.”

James’s performance was not the only controversial moment on Saturday, as judge Robbie Williams’s opening number, which saw him reunite with previously eliminated contestants to perform a medley of his greatest hits, proved divisive with fans.

Some saw it as a barnstorming way to open the X Factor final, while others thought it was a tad self-indulgent.

Fans still have plenty of high profile performances to look forward to on Sunday’s grand final though, including Robbie Williams performing again with his former Take That bandmates.

This series of The X Factor concludes tomorrow (December 2) on ITV.
