John Oliver Just Revealed Which 'Gilmore Girls' Character He Thinks Rory Belongs With
John Oliver had Connecticut on his mind recently. The famed TV personality went on a wild rant about Danbury, Connecticut, and now he has weighed in on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. While he might be a bit late to the game, Oliver’s commentary on the Netflix revival is still relevant. Not only did he say exactly what fans of the series have been thinking for years, but he also revealed which “team” he is on.
Gilmroe Girl fans are divided into three camps
Gilmore Girls premiered back in 2000 and aired its final episode in 2007. The show’s addition to Netflix’s catalog and the subsequent revival has given the show renewed life and a whole new fan base. Whether you consider yourself an old school fan or a brand new convert, you probably fall into one of three camps. You are either a member of Team Dean, Team Jess, or Team Logan.

Fans of Dean Forrester often point to the fact that he was patient and kind to Rory. At least he was initially. Dean lost a ton of support when he cheated on his wife and then seemed to blame both Lindsay and Rory for his bad decisions. Jess Mariano’s fan club members often cite the fact that Jess and Rory appeared to have a lot in common. Jess was angsty and difficult when he first showed up in Stars Hollow but grew up to be kind and responsible. He may be the Gilmore Girls character that had the biggest metamorphosis. Finally, viewers who identify as members of Team Logan, point out that Logan Huntzberger was the perfect counterpart for the overly cautious Rory.
John Oliver admits he’s “team Logan”
Oliver decided to spend some time on Last Week Tonight discussing the Gilmore Girls revival. During Oliver’s commentary on the Netflix Original, he repeatedly questioned who Paul was. Paul, for those who haven’t seen the revival, was the ultra-forgettable man Rory was dating for the majority of the four-part special. When fans first picked up with Rory she had been dating Paul for years, sort of by accident. She told Lorelai and Luke that she just kept forgetting to break up with him. At one point, Rory even jotted down a Post-It reminder to end the relationship. Paul, in the end, broke up with Rory via text message. It didn’t really matter to Rory, though. She had been sleeping with her engaged ex-boyfriend for most of her relationship with Paul, anyway.

Paul’s existence didn’t sit right with Oliver. Maybe that’s because the very existence of Paul made absolutely no sense and was a total deviation from the way Rory approached relationships during the show’s original seven-season run. Maybe Oliver’s issues with Paul’s existence had something to do with who he truly thought Rory belonged with. By the end of his rant, Oliver revealed that he was a member of team Logan.
Is Logan Huntzberger the father of Rory’s baby?
When the revival ended, fans were left to figure out who the father of Rory’s baby could have been. While there are small factions who think Paul or even the Wookie could be the father of Rory’s baby, most fans agree that Logan is the most likely father. There are a few reasons to assume Logan fathered Rory’s child. First and foremost, he is the only person that Rory appeared to sleep with during the “Fall” episode of the four-part series.

Logan is also the only person Rory slept with that she had had a longstanding relationship with. Amy Sherman-Palladino, the famed showrunner, has made it known that her goal was always to bring the show full-circle. Rory’s life, in a lot of ways, was supposed to mimic Lorelai Gilmore’s life. Rory was born from a longstanding relationship, so it would stand to reason that Rory’s child would be born to two parents who had a long history, too. Sherman-Palladino has never mentioned who the father of Rory’s baby is, but fans are hoping to find out one day. Rumors have been swirling for months that a second revival season could be on the horizon.
