Kevin Clifton lands ‘dream job’ on musical directed by Craig Revel Horwood after quitting Strictly – The Sun
KEVIN Clifton has landed his "dream job" on a musical directed by Craig Revel Horwood after quitting Strictly Come Dancing.
The 37-year-old will play Scott Hastings – the lead role in Baz Luhrmann’s smash hit Strictly Ballroom The Musical.
The Sun revealed he stepped down as a professional dancer on Strictly claiming he is "too big" for the show.
His girlfriend Stacey Dooley is said to have encouraged Kevin to go it alone — with one source saying she believes they can be “a TV power couple”.
Speaking on This Morning today, Kevin said: "I've done seven years and achieved everything that I wanted to achieve.
"It was something I had been thinking about.
"Then something came along that's been my inspiration since I was ten years old.
"I watched Strictly Ballroom I became obsessed with it. I said as a ten year old one day they would bring that on stage and I'll play Scott Hastings."
He said he used to have Strictly Ballroom parties at home with his friends where they would play dress up.
Kevin, known to fans as “Kevin from Grimsby”, confirmed his Strictly exit last week.
He joined the show with his then-partner Karen. They married in 2015 but split three years later.
Kevin met his girlfriend Stacey when they were partnered up together in 2018. She left her partner Sam Tucknott to be with Kevin.
Sources say 37-year-old Kevin’s head has been turned by his lust for bigger solo fame and fortune.
The musical is directed by Craig Revel Horwood and is set to dazzle audiences once more with the new 2020/21 tour.
Kicking off in Nottingham on 26 September, the musical will then waltz around the UK and Ireland
before its finale in Reading in June 2021.
Kevin added: "I really can’t wait to don the golden jacket and waltz all over the UK from September this year in what’s set to be an incredible show!”
