Lili Reinhart Mourns Death of Her Grandfather: ‘It Breaks My Heart’

Lili Reinhart is mourning the death of her grandfather.

On Sunday, the Riverdale star, 24, shared on social media that her beloved grandfather died "a few days ago."

"It breaks my heart that I can't be with my family during this time, as we experience this loss. But I'm remembering him on my own, as a simple man from Ohio who loved his Cleveland sports teams and who fell asleep in front of the tv watching old western films," Reinhart wrote.

"He was married to my grandma for 61 years and always called her 'babe,' which I thought was the sweetest thing," she added. "I wish I could've seen him one last time but I'll forever hold him in my heart. Love you, grandpa."

Alongside her touching tribute, Reinhart included a black-and-white photo of her grandpa, smiling in a collared shirt.

Several of Reinhart's friends and fans sent their condolences her way in the comments section of her post.

Last year, Reinhart opened up to her fans about her journey with mental health and wanting to share her trials in a poetry book she wrote titled Swimming Lessons.

Speaking to PEOPLE about the project in September, she said she always feels compelled to tell others what she is going through.

"If I'm going through something — depression, anxiety, a breakup — I need to talk about it," Reinhart told PEOPLE at the time. "I'll talk to my friends for hours, I'll write about it for pages and pages in my journal, I'll write countless poems about it."
