Louise Minchin, 52, is usually seen hosting the show alongside Dan Walker, 44, from Monday through to Wednesday and the pair have become a hit with viewers. Earlier this year, the mother of two announced she would be leaving BBC Breakfast in the Autumn after two decades at the helm of the BBC show. However, with Sally, 50, seen sitting in Louise’s seat in the latest instalment of the programme, those watching at home were unsure as to whether the latter had already been replaced.
Sally often fills in for her colleagues when they enjoy a break from the show and is one of the show’s top relief reporters.
Having worked for the BBC for 15 years, the journalist also presents the sports news on the programme so she is not a new face to proceedings.
The broadcaster has often stepped in for Louise before and she has been drafted in once more as the latter takes some annual leave.
Last week, Louise shared on her official Twitter account she had been walking across Snowdonia in Wales and so it is likely she is taking a small hiatus to relax after the trek.
With her departure set to air in the Autumn, fans need not worry about her disappearing anytime soon as she will be on screens for a few weeks to come.
Viewers still voiced their concern over Louise’s absence as one wrote on Twitter: “@louiseminchin Have you left @BBCBreakfast now?”
Another added on the social media platform over who could permanently fill the broadcaster’s spot: “Sally Nugent as the replacement for Louise Minchin?”
Whereas others commented on the pictures Louise posted from her account of the scenes from Snowdonia last week.
“It’s beautiful up there. You ought to do the @aahevents Snowdonia Slateman Triathlon. It’s beautiful! I’d do it again if you do #challengeset,” a third fan remarked.
Whilst a fourth commented: “Wow! Louise that is an amazing view of a rainbow. Lucky you.”
I will really miss it
Discussing her departure from BBC Breakfast in June, the journalist said: “It’s not going to be for a while.
“And just before everything else, I wanted to thank everybody who’s watching for your support, your loyalty over all those years.
“I have absolutely loved being part of it. I will really miss it but it is time now to stop that alarm, early in the morning.
“And thank you for watching all of those years as well. Anybody who watches will be very well aware my passion is endurance sport, and I will absolutely continue to do that.”
The broadcaster stated she would also be writing a book, continuing with her podcast and having lots of lie-ins as well.
In the meantime, Sally held down the fort well whilst Louise was taking her short hiatus from the show and her rapport with Dan shone through.
When it came to discussing the newspaper headlines of the day, the pair struck up a conversation about TV boxsets to lighten the mood from the more harrowing news.
“Away from all that, we often like to talk about – when there’s so much horrible stuff going on in the world – TV can provide much-needed respite,” Dan said.
“Have you watched Baptiste?” Dan asked Louise’s replacement, to which she replied: “Love Baptiste! Isn’t he amazing?”
Dan admitted he and his wife watch boxsets together, explaining: “It’s good. Although it’s very annoying when she’s busy or I’m busy so you can’t watch it, and then when you jump ahead you get in real trouble!
“Which I didn’t do,” he quipped in case his wife at home was watching and Sally brought the conversation back to Baptiste.
However, the drama had nothing to do with the conversation as Dan explained: “Nobody’s talking about him! I’ve got no information about him – I just wanted to tell you I quite enjoyed watching it!”
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
