Kilbride (played by Gerard McRaney) is set for an almighty storyline in the 13th season of NCIS: Los Angeles after being bumped up to series regular for the very first time. And the drama looks set to start in episode three, titled Indentured, as it looks like he’ll butt heads with the likes of Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and G Callen (Christopher O’Donnell) over a case close to the pair’s hearts. Judging by the latest promo released by CBS, it’ll be revealed Kilbride has close ties to a person of interest – but how?

The synopsis for the next episode of NCIS: LA tees up the clash between Kilbride and his team as it reads: “Sam and Kilbride clash when a case involving an arms dealer responsible for the slaughter of ATF agents leads them to a well-connected colonel and friend of Kilbride.”

Elsewhere, it adds: “Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Fatima (Medalion Rahimi) go undercover to question the arms dealer’s girlfriend.”

And the promo only adds to the hype for the upcoming instalment as it opens with the suspects shooting the agents in question.

Clearly taking the murders personally, Sam says: “The acts of this militia are dangerous and killed our brothers and sisters.”

And he isn’t alone as Callen enter the fray also baying for blood as he tells his righthand man: “I want these guys.”

However, the promo then delves into the obstacles Callen and Sam will face in their quest to avenge their colleagues.

“The leader is former German naval commander,” Sam can be heard saying in the trailer as shots of the leader pop up on-screen.

And moments later, Kilbride’s ties come into question as fans see photos of the commander and the NCIS: LA stalwart from years gone by enjoying a fishing trip.

“Kilbride is personal friends with the guy,” Sam explains, understandably anxious.

The promo then reveals Kilbride will take exception to Sam and Callen’s plans to take down the German commander.

Embroiled in a heated face-off with Sam, Kilbride barks: “This case will be handled in a manner that I see fit.”

And in the final moments of the promo, Sam confides in Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), saying: “He won’t let us go after him.”

The trailer cuts there before fans get to see what the outcome of the conflict of interests will be on Kilbride’s part.

But could it be that the new NCIS: LA has been secretly working with this criminal outfit throughout?

After all, why else would the admiral put up such a stern opposition against Callen and Sam’s quest to take the militia down?

Surely Kilbride would be on the duo’s side and be desperate to avenge the death of federal agents, even if he was a friend of the suspect or not.

If Callen, Sam and the rest of the team start digging into Kilbride’s history with the commander, they could easily discover a well-kept secret.

And given the clues dropped in the episode three promo, it’s not unlikely Kilbride could have an ulterior motive – perhaps even working behind the scenes against his very own team.

Fans will have to tune into the third episode when it airs on Sunday to discover whether Kilbride is a double agent or not and the truth behind his ties to the suspect.

NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 airs Mondays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
