Neighbours Toadie actor Ryan Moloney teases career U-turn after soap axe

Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney has teased a surprising new career route as the popular Australian soap prepares to come to an end later this week.

The 42-year-old first joined the show in 1995, playing the role of Jarrod Rebecchi, who's better known to fans as 'Toadfish' or 'Toadie' and has been a regular resident on Ramsay Street ever since.

But while discussing what could be next on the cards for him to the Daily Telegraph in Australia, the star appeared to allude to a new career path while also expressing that he has no concrete plans as of yet.

Speaking frankly he said: "I'm not ruling anything out. I'm doing a civil construction course which is about driving excavators and building roads.

"I like playing with those kinds of machines. I like doing earthworks, all that kind of manual labour stuff. That's where I'm at, but who knows where it's all going to end up."

A few years ago, The Celebrity Big Brother star is believed to have trained as a pilot and previously teased that it could be a career for him in the future.

Despite staying on the show for many years, earlier this month the actor revealed to the Herald Sun that he had planned to leave Neighbours had it not been axed – though he's "grateful" to have stayed until the very end.

When asked whether he thought he would be a permanent member of the show, he replied: "Not at all, each contract that came my way was a blessing.

"There were times I thought about leaving, especially when I was growing up. My friends on the show came in, had a great time and then left for their adventure, either in the UK, US or Australia.

"I actually feel as though now I'm about to go on my adventure, and I get to see what else is going to happen from this point on. I'm really excited about it."

After over 9000 episodes and 37 years on air, Neighbours is set to come to an end with a special double-episode finale.

However the long-running soap will end with a return of its most famous stars including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.
