Olly Murs confirms return to X Factor three years after that presenting blunder

It’s been three years since Olly Murs made a minor mistake while at work, but now, with that infamous X Factor blunder behind him, the singer is returning to its stage.

In case you missed it: Olly found himself in the midst of an (overblown) media storm back in 2015 after prematurely announcing that contestant Monica Michael was going home. The backlash and criticism was weirdly unrelenting, and Olly was dropped from the reality series as host.

Fortunately, Olly is ready to smash his return to the X Factor stage, confirming to Metro.co.uk that he’ll be performing a brand new single before we know it.

Promoting the release of his upcoming album You Know I Know, Olly is scheduled to perform ‘Love Me Again’ in front of his old boss this weekend.

Opening up about his slip-up earlier this month, Olly revealed that the negative press attention that followed forced him to seek help from a therapist.

“The papers didn’t laugh it off – they made a massive deal about it,” Olly explained. “The media attention, and the social media aspect, upset me the most. They really tried to take me to the cleaners. They tried to make me lose my job over a silly, small mistake.

“And when I went back to singing, it made me overthink what I was doing: ‘I’m going to forget the lyrics, what I’m doing’… So, that was something I needed to speak to a therapist about.”

The X Factor continues Saturday night (October 27) on ITV.
