Netflix series Ozark will be ending with season four after the US streamer confirmed the news recently. There will be 14 episodes in the final outing which will be split into two blocs for fans to savour a little bit longer. Many viewers have been speculating about how the story will conclude – but is this the end of the road for one character?
Has Ruth Langmore’s death been sealed in Ozark season 4?
Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner) is one of the best-loved characters on Ozark after she was first introduced to the series in the first outing.
After initially getting off on the wrong foot with Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and trying to rob him, she soon became an associate of the family.
Despite Marty telling the KC Mob she was “untouchable”, Ruth was beaten up by Frank Cosgrove Jr (Joseph Sikora).
She was rushed to hospital after being beaten to a pulp by Frank, who believed it was her fault a deal had gone sour amid an assassination attempt on members of the KC Mob.

Marty confronted Frank Cosgrove Sr. (John Bedford Lloyd) and told him their business dealings were off over what happened to Ruth.
However, he later backtracked on this and continued to work with the KC Mob, signalling to Ruth she wasn’t really part of the family.
Ruth’s words to Marty and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) were clear when she told them if it had been Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz), they wouldn’t be having this conversation.
She later decided to quit working for the Byrdes when they failed to protect her. But not long after this, Ruth entered the employment of Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery).
With Ruth no longer working for the Byrdes, she could be targeted by the Navarro Cartel and their hitman Nelson (Nelson Bonilla).
Nelson has already murdered Ruth’s father Cade Langmore (Trevor Long), so he would have no hesitations about bumping her off.
There are many people working for Navarro, so it would be quite easy for something to take down Ruth.
Additionally, Ruth could be a target for the KC Mob again after Darlene attacked Frank Jr.
While the KC Mob and Darlene appeared to strike a deal, the heroin farmer’s time could be limited and she could be killed off along with Ruth.
So, now Ruth is embracing fully who she is but could the Langmore curse be out to get her – and all of her kind – as a result of her choices?
Speaking to the LA Times on the Can’t Stop Watching podcast, Garner revealed how she wrote a journal for Ruth which helped aid her performance.
Reflecting on the entries for Ruth in the current run, Garner explained: “The thing that was the most for season three was the fact at how alone she was. Ruth did not have anyone this year. She killed all her family, her uncles and then her dad passes away because of her association with the Byrdes.

“Then her best friend Wyatt, he goes away. He’s done with her. Three is done. So she’s basically by herself. It used to be so crowded the Langmore trailer, if you see season one.
“If you see it now, it’s completely empty and I think that’s why she’s really clinging onto the Byrdes because she’s trying to convince herself that what she did is right and she’s making the right decision by being with the Byrdes like, ‘I’ll get something out of this, they’ll help me’.
“After she asks for that favour and they don’t do it, she knows that they don’t have her back.”
Garner’s words suggest a significant shift going into season four which could put Ruth in a more vulnerable position.
While she might have the Snells and be with her cousin Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan), Ruth could be in big trouble with more foes than she could ever have imagined.
