Paddy McGuinness lands another BBC hosting gig with new primetime singing show I Can See Your Voice

PADDY McGuinness is fast becoming the poster boy for the BBC – as I can reveal he has bagged yet another high-profile gig for the channel.

Fresh from being handed the reins to Top Gear and becoming the new face of Total Wipeout alongside his pal Freddie Flintoff, he now also has a singing show under his belt.

I’m told Paddy will front the new BBC1 mystery music game show I Can See Your Voice, which will air next year.

Contestants on the series will try to guess who can and can’t sing, from a line-up of singers, to win a cash prize.

The guessing game is big in South Korea, just like ITV’s hit of 2020 The Masked Singer, and the Beeb hope the music show with a twist will become a primetime hit.

Paddy said: “A show like this doesn’t come along very often. It’s bonkers, silly and the ultimate family night in.

“Everyone can play along at home and I am looking forward to welcoming the good and the bad to our stage.

"Here’s to making it the one to watch in 2021.”

Paddy has come to be seen as a very safe pair of hands in the industry since bursting on to screens in 2001 on Phoenix Nights alongside Peter Kay.

As well as Top Gear, he fronts BBC game show Catchpoint and is a mainstay in the line-up for Sport Relief and Comic Relief.

He’s come a long way since his days as a bouncer at The Phoenix Club.

Shaun of the undead

HERE are comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost teaming up in their latest roles – as ghostbusters.

The pair, who worked together on Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, will star in Amazon Prime comedy-horror series Truth Seekers.

They play part-time paranormal investigators Dave and Gus, who join forces to uncover and film ghost sightings across the country.

The lads share their adventures on an online channel for all to see but then begin to uncover a conspiracy which could bring about Armageddon for the entire human race.

Off to the pub for a pint when it blows over, fellas?

WHAT? The Secrets She Keeps, BBC1, 9pm.

WHY? In the series finale, Agatha (Laura Carmichael) takes poorly baby Ben/Rory from his parents and police struggle to track her down.

Smith is in clues control

SHERIDAN Smith is on a hunt to find the UK’s best-loved fictional detective.

The Bafta-winning actress is presenting a one-off special that will crown the most popular sleuth, voted for by the public.

Throughout the ITV show, viewers have to unravel a mystery to see if they can work out who it is.

Old clips and never-before-seen moments will be shared as each investigator goes under the microscope.

The top TV detectives – including Sherlock Holmes, Columbo, Miss Marple and Line Of Duty’s AC-12 – are all in the running.

Also featured in the 90-minute one-off show are Hercule Poirot, DCI Tom Barnaby from Midsomer Murders and DCI John Luther.

If Superintendent Ted Hastings from Line Of Duty doesn’t win, someone needs to open an investigation – and sharpish.

JOANNA Lumley nearly took a tumble when she interviewed a dog owner for her upcoming ITV travel show Unseen Adventures.

She said: “This jumping dog was adorable but he nearly knocked me over.”

Who's next up on ice?

SOAP stars seem to excel if you give them a pair of skates and point them at the ice.

Just ask previous Dancing On Ice winners Matthew Wolfenden, Joe Swash and Hayley Tamaddon.

Bosses on the ITV show are sticking with the formula as an array of actors from Corrie, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale were spotted trying out for the series this week.

They include Corrie’s Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster, Emmerdale’s Alexander Lincoln, Samantha Giles and Joe-Warren Plant and Hollyoaks’ Carley Stenson and Alex Fletcher.

Benidorm’s Jake Canuso and Wags Dawn Ward and Tanya Bardsley also tried out. But my favourite hopeful is BEZ from Happy Mondays.

I’d love to see him shaking his maracas on ice.

SCREENWRITER Jimmy McGovern was asked to create a show about the life that student Anthony Walker, murdered in Merseyside in 2005, could have had by the teen’s mother.

BBC1’s 90-minute show will star TOHEEB JIMOH.

It wool suit Mel

MEL Giedroyc will front Channel 4’s new challenge show Good With Wood.

The six-part series involves competitors whittling and carving objects as they battle to be crowned winner.

Mel, who refused to move to Channel 4 when Bake Off switched from BBC1 in 2016, said: “In the words of Ian Faith, the manager of Spinal Tap, ‘in the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good, solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful’.”

I wonder if they will cry as much as the bakers did.
