Pregnant Bernie returns to EastEnders and goes into labour

Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) makes her long-awaited return in EastEnders later this month, much to Rainie Highway’s (Tanya Franks) delight, but things are set to take quite turn.

The former mainstay was last seen in October 2021, when she decided to take some time away from the Square following claims that Rainie had started using drugs again.

Rainie reiterated time and again that she was clean, but Bernie didn’t know what to do for the best, as it was apparent that she was starting to have doubts about giving the child to Rainie and Stuart (Ricky Champ).

With so much to contemplate, she resolved to leave Walford and go and stay with brother Keanu (Danny Walters).

‘I think that Bernie is overwhelmed with everything and definitely needs some time away to clear her head,’ Claire Norris told Metro.co.uk at the time.

‘I think it will do her good to get away, take care of herself and the baby for a bit, that’s her number one priority. She knows how much this is going to hurt Stuart and Rainie but Bernie is determined to put the baby first.’

Rainie has struggled to get in touch with Bernie since she upped sticks and left, and earlier this week, she was seen panicking, given that the baby’s due date is edging closer.

But after months away, heavily pregnant Bernie returns to the Square in upcoming scenes, and let’s just say that things get off to quite an interesting start, as she faces the reality of handing her baby over to Rainie and Stuart.

She stops by the flat above the funeral parlour to discuss all the finer details with the parents-to-be, but it’s safe to stay she’s left in shock when she discovers that Stuart is battling cancer!

Conflict ensues, as she rages at them for keeping such important information from her.

Little does she know, however, what’s about to happen.

Moments later, Bernie’s anger turns to shock, as she goes into labour! Pictures reveal the moment in question, as Rainie races to Bernie’s side and squeezes her hand.

Will she be okay? Will the baby?

What’s more, will Stuart and Rainie receive the child they’ve always wanted? Or will Bernie perhaps reconsider and decide to keep the baby?

We’ll just have to wait and see!

EastEnders airs these scenes on Tuesday March 29 at 7:30pm on BBC One.
