Sex Education will soon be back for season three and fans can not be more excited. The third season has been hotly anticipated since season two debuted in January 2020. Fans are keen to know all they can about the new season of the Netflix show.
What time does Sex Education season 3 premiere?
After nearly a two year wait, Sex Education is back, and it looks to be the most eventful season yet.
Premiering on September 17, the new season will bring eight episodes of more classroom drama.
The teen drama is more popular than ever, with legions of new fans catching up on the show following the release of season two.
As a result, viewers are primed to binge the eight new episodes as soon as they air on the 17th of September, and thankfully they can start almost immediately on the day.
Netflix typically drops new content at midnight of the premiere date, giving fans plenty of time to get through the new season in one sitting.
All the main cast are returning, including Asa Butterfield as Otis Milburn, Gillian Anderson as Jean Milburn, and Emma Mackey as Maeve.
Joining them is Kedar Williams-Stirling as Jackson Marchetti, Ncuti Datwa as Eric Effiong, Connor Swindells as Adam Groff, and Aimee Lou Wood as Aimee Gibbs.
The synopsis of season three reads: “It’s a new year, Otis is having casual sex, Eric and Adam are official, and Jean has a baby on the way.
“Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee discovers feminism, Jackson gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms.”
New teacher Hope will be played by Jemina Kirke, known for her roles in Maniac and Girls.
The long wait for the new season was due to the coronavirus pandemic, leading to the series suffering from delays and setbacks.
Some fans even feared the show had been cancelled by Netflix, but this was not the case, as many shows have been held back since early 2020.
Netflix has not confirmed if there will be a fourth season, though confirmation will likely come following season three’s premiere.
According to the show’s Costume Designer, Rosa Dias, the writers of a potential fourth season will have their work cut out for them following the third season’s ending.
Speaking to Metro back in May, Dias said: “When you see series three, the end of it is really quite interesting.
“Whatever happens in four, if it happens, wow – the writers have got a challenge. They’ve got a massive challenge on their hands.
“It will be really interesting to see if they do four, what they’re going to do. It’s massive.”
Fans have been sharing their excitement on social media, with many of them commenting on the trailer posted to YouTube.
One fan wrote: “I don’t really watch teen drama shows anymore, but this show is fire.”
Another commented: “The only series I’m willing to wait a year just to have an 8-episode season.”
“Time to rewatch the previous two seasons because IT FEELS LIKE A DECADE AGO when I first saw them,” added a third.
Sex Education season 3 airs on Netflix on September 17.
