Shadowhunters stars pay tribute to the show as filming wraps on final episodes

Cult TV show Shadowhunters has wrapped production on its final episodes, making it a series wrap on the show following the news that Freeform had cancelled the series.

The series’ stars took to social media to mark the final days of production and posted tributes to their characters, the show and its fans as they prepare to say goodbye to their characters.

Clary Fray actress Kat McNamara was among the stars paying tribute with a lengthy Instagram caption in which she said that playing the character has been an “honour”.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie the Pooh. Truly, #Shadowhunters has been an angelic blessing. Playing Clary is an honor that has taught me more than I can express. She is strong, courageous, compassionate, badass, and broken, and I love every little imperfect piece of her. She will always be a part of me and I’d like to think I left a little part of me with her. Beyond that, the family created from the cast and crew, to the writers and producers, to you angels is something to be cherished. Being a part of a story that resonates for so many people and has a real positive influence on their lives is a rare gift and privilege that I will forever treasure. We have been breathing rarified air here in the Shadow World, whether or not we knew it. This experience is lightning in a bottle and I will spend the rest of my life trying to find it again. However, if you take anything with you from this, take this: the story doesn’t end here. It lives on and continues in all of us as we carry on the #ShadowhuntersLegacy as a group of people who stand for acceptance, love, and unity. Hail and farewell, angels. All my love . You know what they say… when one door closes… ?⚔️✨

Simon Lewis actor Alberto Rosende shared his own message, writing that the fans, the cast and everyone involved with the show should be “SO proud of everything” they’ve achieved.

“We have created a wonderful world full of fantastical beauty and love!” he added. “We fought together, we cried together and most importantly, we loved together. My hopes are very high looking ahead at the legacy of Shadowhunters.”

As I sit here and attempt to process the past 3 years, 3 seasons, 55 episodes, 400+ days of work (don’t trust my math here), I can’t help but become inundated with emotions and memories. Our time over the past 3 Seasons can be considered an odyssey but now looking back it feels more like a dream, an epic story that happened in my mind where the protagonist, this skinny, wide eyed, college graduate went from being this scrappy kid from Brooklyn to a confident, self assured, Daylighter. All of us, the cast, the crew, production, the writers room and all of you fans should be SO proud of everything we’ve done together. We have created a wonderful world full of fantastical beauty and love! We fought together, we cried together and most importantly, we loved together. My hopes are very high looking ahead at the legacy of Shadowhunters. I am very proud to have been your Simon Lewis. I am very proud to be a part of our giant family. I am very proud of each of you who continue to fight for love and make this world a better place. Keep questioning. Keep learning. Keep being curious. Keep being positive forces for change in your communities around the world! I love you all! Simon Lewis…that’s a wrap! #shadowhunterslegacy #shadowhuntersfamily #thanksforthememories #toinfinityandbeyond

Meanwhile, Emeraude Toubia, who plays Isabelle Lightwood, marked the moment the series wrapped with a video of the cast and crew cheering, while Harry Shum Jr and Matthew Daddario joined forces to deliver a video message to the fans too.

“Thank you for a fantastic three years,” Matthew began. “I’m just really thankful that you guys have been so positive about it.”

Freeform confirmed that it had cancelled the show back in June, citing economic reasons, and announcing that it had ordered a special two-part finale to wrap up its storylines.

Shadowhunters fans responded to the news by launching the #SaveShadowhunters campaign, which has seen fans raise over $18k and counting for The Trevor Project, hire a plane to fly over Netflix’s LA headquarters with a giant #SaveShadowhunters banner and buy a billboard in New York City’s Times Square.

Shadowhunters season three returns to Freeform in the US in 2019, while Netflix airs the show in the UK.
