Spoilers: Emmerdale star brands Paddy and Chas’ wedding story 'insane'

Dingle weddings in Emmerdale are always a recipe for chaos and disaster – so imagine one where the bride doesn’t even know she is getting married!

That’s what Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) has in store for his hopefully wife-to-be Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) – but the actor who plays him isn’t sure this is his alter ego’s cleverest idea.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he laughed: ‘He’s insane! He just wants to give the best present he could after two really bad years – losing Grace and the rocky marriage. The sticking plaster is the right term. He doesn’t think things through, he has a male brain and gets carried away.

‘He gets ridiculously stressed. He has bitten off more than he can chew and asks everyone else to help. It’s very sweet and romantic – it’s a lovely episode but he’s an idiot. But it’s too late – it’s quite farcical.

‘Nothing is available due to Christmas and Covid. Marlon helps with the invitations but they all come with typos – instead of exchanging vows it says cows. Aaron, Marlon and Leyla step in but he’s very pernickety but he also doesn’t know what we wants.

‘He drives himself up the wall and shouts at them. It’s a pathetic state of affairs – but he really loves her and wants it to be right. I think the relationship has been solved after the heart to heart. Chas has been very honest about what happened and Paddy was unusually articulate about how it made him feel. Those cards have been played. He just loves her and wants to give her the best present.’

Of course, the best present they can wish for is love and Dominic was able to sum up Paddy’s feelings for Charity beautifully.

He smiled: ‘He loves her. He feels like a lesser person without her. He is completely lost without her. She is his other half, he is a lost little boy really. She completes him.’

Let’s hope they will be celebrating Christmas night as man and wife.
