Star Wars: The Last Jedi fight scenes hint at a deeper connection between Rey and Kylo Ren

An eagle-eyed Star Wars fan may have uncovered a new connection between Rey and Kylo Ren that could boost some prominent fan theories.

Reddit user egoshoppe shared a GIF on Sunday which compared Rey’s lightsaber training in The Last Jedi with the final battle later in the movie between Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker.

The GIF was also shared by fan Twitter account Star Wars Stuff.

While the two sequences aren’t identical, they’re certainly close enough to spark a debate among die-hard fans.

For some fans, the similarities are most certainly intentional and hint at a deep, as-yet-unexplored connection between Rey and Kylo Ren.

Despite her parentage seemingly being revealed in The Last Jedi, some fans are still holding on to the belief that Rey is Han Solo’s illegitimate daughter, meaning she and Kylo Ren are half-siblings.

Others see the similarities as just being a nod to both characters being trained by Luke.

And there are those who aren’t having any of it, brushing off the similarities as being down to the same person probably doing the fight scene choreography on set.

But that’s a bit of a boring way to look at it if you ask us.

After all, this is Star Wars we’re talking about and is anything ever really just a coincidence in the Star Wars universe?

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
