Stay Close is the latest novel from author Harlan Coben to be brought to life as a Netflix series. Coben has had a five-year deal with the streaming service, allowing its creators to take the novelist’s work and turn it into a limited series that would leave its subscribers on edge. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know on where the drama was shot.

Where was Stay Close on Netflix filmed?

Originally, all of Coben’s novels are set somewhere in America with Stay Close based in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

However, the author likes to switch it up when it comes to Netflix, changing the locations altogether.

Stay Close has been adapted for British television and was filmed in and around Manchester.

Many of the scenes were also shot in Blackpool and various other locations in the North West of England.

In April 2021, the cast of Stay Close were seen filming at one of Manchester’s popular nightclubs Impossible Bar.

Other scenes were shot in Didsbury, a suburban area south of Manchester City on the banks of the River Mersey.

Actress Cush Jumbo was spotted at The Northern Lawn Tennis Club in West Didsbury.

This particular scene at the club is going to feature in the first episode of Stay Close.

A sculpture used as a meeting point in the Netflix series is The Dream Head.

This can be located in Sutton Manor Woods, St Helens in Merseyside if fans wish to visit.

Discussing filming the Netflix drama with press, including Express.co.uk, creator Coben said: “[As well as Manchester], we also used Blackpool, the book is set in Atlantic City, New

Jersey and Blackpool really looks a lot like Atlantic City!

“It’s always a challenge to move things around. In the book we have this thing called Lucy the Elephant and here we’re using The Dream head sculpture.”

Coben continued: “I know some people are like ‘you’re not keeping true to the book,’ but I love that hybrid of what British crime does so well and what I do in novels.

“I love making changes. A book is a book and a TV series is a TV series.

“They are not the same thing and they shouldn’t be. Both should be compelling stories, but the worst adaptations are the ones that are slavishly devoted to the text.”

Stay Close sounds like it is going to be one of Coben’s most exciting yet going by its premises.

Stay Close revolves around the ordinary lives of Megan (played by Cush Jumbo), Detective Broome (James Nesbitt), Ray (Richard Armitage) and Lorraine (Sarah Parish).

But a horrific incident leads to the past catching up with all of them and bringing one another back into their lives.

With their secrets returning to haunt them, how will this impact all of their futures?

Stay Close premieres on Friday, December 31, on Netflix.
