Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line-up: Dawn French signs up as Kevin Clifton drops bombshell?
Grimsby-favourite professional dancer Kevin Clifton finally had his moment in the spotlight during last year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing.
The ballroom dancer raced to the top with BBC documentary star Stacey Dooley, and the pair bagged the trophy in emotional scenes in the show’s finale.
Following some shake-ups and changes behind the scenes on the hit reality competition, it’s finally time to get down to business, and Kevin has revealed his dream celebrity partner would be French and Saunders and The Vicar of Dibley star Dawn French.
Kevin appeared on BBC Radio Solent today to discuss the show and his latest projects, and the topic turned to who he would like to train next.
“For some reason, I don’t know why,” the dancer considered. “I just like the idea of it, I’d really love to do Strictly with Dawn French.
“I don’t know why – I think she would be wicked.”
The star then added: “I have no idea if she’d ever do it.”
Speaking of reacting to learning who their partners are every year on the show, Kevin then revealed: ”We do have a WhatsApp group.
“The pros do have a WhatsApp group, so when the celebs start getting announced, usually throughout August, we are all on the group with each other saying ‘she’d be good for you’ or ‘he’d be good for you’.”
“So then we try and pair everybody up by the time they are all announced on our WhatsApp group,” the star continued. “We’re all sort of saying, ‘I think it’s going to be this’.

“I believe the celebs get to talk to the producers a little bit to say ‘I would like someone like this’, some of them might prefer a more stricter approach or more soft,” the dancer went on.
“I believe there’s some sort of conversation between the producers and celebs but the pros – no.”
Kevin also spoke about the unexpected news Dame Darcey Bussell decided to quit the BBC show ahead of this year’s series.
In terms of who he thinks will replace the ballerina though, Kevin insisted: ”I’ve got absolutely no idea, I mean, I assume they’ll be making the announcement pretty soon because we are heading towards Strictly.
“It could be anyone because obviously she was from the ballet world but it could be anyone.
“They brought in Shirley last time to replace Len but she’s from the ballroom and Latin world.”
“I’d rather it was someone big from their dance world like Darcey was,” Kevin added.
Some of the hotly tipped contestants to take part in the BBC show this year include former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley, Sunday Brunch presenter Tim Lovejoy and football manager Sam Allardyce.
Will Dawn French be joining the line-up for this year’s series?
One former contestant has recently revealed what the show has changed over the years, and some of the tweaks may surprise fans.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
