Strictly Come Dancing continues this evening, with the contestants taking on a whole range of different dances as there is no theme for this week’s performances. Now halfway through the BBC dance competition, the couples can make no mistakes as they gear towards the final at a quick pace. As well as impressing the viewers at home, they have to face the critiques of the judging panel, made up of Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke. All hoping to do enough to avoid the dance-off this weekend, here is a breakdown of what happened on the night.
AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington
As the pair continue to impress with their mesmerising routines, they are still one of the favourites to take the Glitterball Trophy.
This weekend, AJ and Kai will be taking on the Charleston to Don’t Bring Lulu by Dorothy Provine featuring Pinky and The Girls.
They have some stiff competition from some of their co-stars as the likes of Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice are rising through the ranks.
Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice
After last weekend’s performance, the couple have set the bar extremely high for themselves and will have to push themselves to ensure no one takes them from the top spot.
They earned the first 40 of the series with their Halloween inspired routine; the earliest 40 to ever to be given in Strictly history.
This weekend, they will be taking on a Samba to Cinema Italiano but singer, actress and model, Kate Hudson.
Sara Davies and Aljaz Skorjanec
The pair have received great critiques from the judges over the past few weeks, with the panel impressed on how much Sara is learning.
She and Aljaz will be taking on their first-ever Quickstep this weekend to the Dolly Parton classing, 9 to 5.
Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin
Week on week, Tilly and her professional dancing partner Nikita are improving and they impressed the panel with their Frankenstein inspired dance last weekend.
However, they will be changing pace a little on Saturday as they will be taking on a fast-paced Tango routine to a chart-topping song.
They will be dancing to King and Queens by Ava Max and will be hoping they are King and Queen of the leaderboard by the end of the night.
Adam Peaty and Katya Jones – 27
Unfortunately, Olympic diver Adam and his professional partner Katya haven’t had the best of luck with their performances in recent weeks.
During the Halloween episodes, they found themselves in the bottom two but they narrowly managed to win over the judges.
They hoped to make an impression this weekend when they took on the Jive to Little Bitty Pretty One by Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers.
Head judge Shirley commended Adam on being “light of his feet” and his impressive kicks but did address there was an error in the performance.
Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova
So far, Dan and Nadia have managed to avoid the dance-off despite not getting the highest of scores from the judging panel.
Hoping to further their journey in the competition, they will be taking on a Couple’s Choice dance to the song Classic by MKTO.
John Whaite and Johannes Radebe
Although their scores have dipped a little in the last couple of weeks, John and Johannes are hoping to get themselves back up the leaderboard.
This weekend, they will be performing a Rumba to the song Shape Of My Heart by Sting in a bid to remain in the competition.
Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu
Rhys and Nancy have also had a bumpy few weeks in the competition as they found themselves in the bottom two recently.
They have remained defiant to continue and in this weekend’s show, they will be taking on a Quickstep to What A Man Gotta Do by the Jonas Brothers.
Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden
According to the bookmakers, the couple are now the ones to beat as they seem to have rocketed up the leaderboard in recent weeks.
On Saturday evening, they will be taking on their first Paso Doble to the song Amparito Roca by Spanish music star, Jaime Texidor.
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs Sunday at 7:15pm on BBC One.
