The Batman director Matt Reeves shares first look at Robert Pattinson in costume

Batman fans have been given their first glimpse of Robert Pattinson in the iconic suit as director Matt Reeves shared a first look at The Batman.

Matt posted a short clip on Twitter titled: ‘#TheBatman #CameraTest’ as dramatic music played as the camera panned over Robert Pattinson in character.

While the clip is less than a minute long, it doesn’t give anything away about the movie, but fans have been able to see the new Batman suit for the first time.

The classic bat motif can be seen on the front of the suit, as it pans up to see half of Robert’s face obscured by the mask.

Robert had been cast in the coveted role as the Caped Crusader in May, and the first snippets have started to be revealed.

At the end of January, Matt revealed a director’s slate from the first day on set, getting fans excited that production for the long-awaited movie was finally underway.

As well as Robert in the titular role, the rest of the star-studded cast includes Zoe Kravitz, who takes on the role of Catwoman and Colin Farrell, who will be playing Batman villain Penguin.

Matt has previously confirmed Andy Serkis as butler Alfred, with the role previously being played by Sir Michael Caine in the Christopher Nolan directed Dark Knight trilogy.

Peter Sarsgaard is playing District Attorney Gil Colson, rumoured to be a potential alter-ego of Harvey Dent after he was added to the production.

He remained tight-lipped about what his character would be, but told SiriusXM of the movie: ‘It’s so raw… it is not sanitised, it’s got a raw power to it, a raw emotionality.’

Speaking about the director, Peter added: ‘Well I have to say Matt Reeves, I’ve been around some big shows like this and seen the way that it can both go well and not go well.

‘It is so nice to have someone at the helm who is just utterly in control. Because it’s like being a CEO artist, like you’ve got to have both things. It’s been a real pleasure.’

Robert also revealed that he had campaigned to get the role, telling Variety: ‘I’d had Batman in my mind for a while. It’s such an absurd thing to say.

‘I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.’

Robert got to try on the Batman suit during the final stages of the audition process and he revealed: ‘You do feel very powerful immediately.

‘It is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something.

‘Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, “Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.”’

The Batman will be released in cinemas on 25 June, 2021.
