The Walking Dead season 10: AMC series dealt cruel blow as premiere breaks season 9 record
The Walking Dead season 10 has a lot riding on it. After Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) was taken out of the show to star in his own TV movies, the viewers worried the show would not be the same. Since then Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) took over the bulk of the show’s responsibilities. This season will also see a number of changes as well.
Earlier this year it was announced Michonne star Danai would be leaving the show after eight years on the show.
It has not yet been confirmed who will be taking over from the main cast member – if anyone at all.
However this weekend saw the first episode of season ten arrive on screens, and viewers tuned in to see the beginning of Michonne’s end.
But, according to Deadline, the show suffered a huge viewer loss compared to last year’s numbers.

The publication claims just four million people tuned in to the first episode of season 10.
This number is three percent less than the amount of viewers it had last year in the show’s series low – season nine, episode 15; The Calm Before.
The season 10 debut also saw fewer members of the show’s key demographic, with adults aged 18-49 dropping by 44 per cent, and adults 25-52 dropping 34 per cent.
Despite this, Deadline also goes on to say that subscriptions for AMC Premiere – the network’s premium service – have gone up, and are not included in the show’s viewer figures.
While this dip in viewers may have been due to people watching on-demand, or through the subscription service, could it be in danger of dropping figures?
Meanwhile, the first episode of the show contained a huge Rick Grimes easter egg.
During the show’s opening credits sequence, a number of heroes were shown off in stylised silhouettes, mimicking their real-life actions.
One of these picturesque scenarios showed off the figure of a man on a bridge, standing with a gun pointed at a horde of walkers.

This is the iconic final scene of Rick on The Walking Dead, just before he was helicoptered away from his friends.
While Rick has not yet returned to the show, it is expected he will somehow reunite with members of his team in the coming movies he is embroiled within.
Furthermore, Michonne’s death has not been confirmed just yet – only her exit.
This may mean the character will remain alive in the upcoming episodes, and leave for another reason.

If this is the case, she may find herself getting involved in Rick’s movies, helping him finish off his story once and for all.
Alternatively, Michonne may be killed off in the upcoming episodes, leaving her two children devastated.
Could Michonne’s death be enough of an incentive to see the return of Rick in the coming episodes?
The Walking Dead season 10 continues every Sunday on AMC and every Monday on FOX UK.
