This Morning viewers in meltdown as Ruth Langsford ‘laughs’ at Boris Johnson testing positive for coronavirus

This Morning viewers have reacted as Ruth Langsford seemingly "laughed" as it was announced Boris Johnson had tested positive for coronavirus.

News of the Prime Minister's diagnosis came during Friday morning's live episode of the hit ITV daytime show, with Ruth's husband Eamonn Holmes, 60, breaking the news to viewers.

But as Eamonn read out the initial reports, viewers seemed to notice how Ruth, also 60, struggled to contain a giggle.

Eamonn told viewers: "It is being reported, we'll get official confirmation on this very, very shortly, but there are reports emanating from Downing Street that the Prime Minister has tested positive for coronavirus."

Ruth is seeing looking down at her mobile phone and smirking as her husband continued to inform viewers of the breaking news, with her then saying: "Sorry…" before letting out a giggle.

Viewers then took to Twitter to comment on the clip, with one writing: "Don't act too happy eh Ruth [sic]".

A second asked: "Cheeky smirk @RuthieeL?" alongside a smirking face emoji.

Another wrote: "Ruth on this morning trying not to laugh when reading out that Boris has Covid 19 is all of us [sic]".

As a fourth added: "Ruth desperately trying to keep a serious face now. Too late Ruth."

Shortly after Eamonn announced the reports, Boris took to social media to confirm the news.

He wrote on Twitter: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

"I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives."

"That has come out positive so I am working from home, I am self isolating.

"That is entirely the right thing to do but be in no doubt that I can continue thanks to the wizardry of modern technology to communicate with all my top team to lead the national fight back against coronavirus."
