The Walking Dead: Nearly half of fans plan to stop watching after Andrew Lincoln exits

The dipping TV ratings for The Walking Dead have been documented in the last couple of years, and it looks like that trend may continue in season 9.

In case you missed the news, Rick Grimes is all but certain to be written out, as numerous reports have leaked that Andrew Lincoln will only be appearing in six more episodes.

Rick being the protagonist, it’s not surprising that some fans would consider giving up on the AMC drama. But what may surprise you is how many.

The Walking Dead sub-Reddit did an extensive survey, asking its many users a number of questions on the state of the show. And one of the results showed that 44% (out of nearly 900 respondents) would not continue watching after Lincoln’s final scene.

Nearly 37% were undecided, while only 18% said that they would definitely keep watching.

Elsewhere, 72% think The Walking Dead should end after season 9.

Carol is the character fans most want to stay alive (with Judith, Michonne, Negan, and Dwight rounding out the top five).

And Negan is the character fans most want to take over as lead of the programme with 40% of the vote. Rumoured new lead Daryl was only in third place, behind Judith as well.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US, and on FOX and Now TV in the UK.
