If you’ve caught up with Jane the Virgin‘s season four finale, chances are you were pretty blown away by the return of a much-loved character from the dead.

In a moment that took Jane the Virgin‘s dramatic telenovela roots to a whole new level, fans were left stunned when Jane’s husband Michael (Brett Dier) was found alive and well.

Over a year after (and an entire season-and-a-half) we were subjected to the heartbreak of watching him die, season four ended with the shock, and seemingly legitimate, return of Michael.

While we weren’t sure if anyone could have been more surprised to learn of Michael’s fate than us, it seems the actual cast of Jane the Virgin might’ve topped our reaction.

Opening up about the twist and what it means for season five, showrunner Jennie Urman confirmed that while Michael might not be who he seems, he’s definitely “not a twin”.

“It’s not a twin,” she confirmed. “I can’t say whether it’s definitely Michael – that will be answered in the first episode of the fifth season.

“There’s definitely going to be some questions… but it certainly looks like Michael. This person — and then we’ll talk about him as Michael for clarity — has been somewhere and has had a journey, so we’ll be getting into that.”

We can’t wait.
