Tinnies and True Love
SBS Viceland, 9pm
The original title of this documentary was Tits, Tinnies and True Love and while the former two are liberally on display, the latter? Not so much. Still, it's always interesting to get an outsider's view of our culture and this US attempt to capture a quintessentially Aussie moment is very successful – if a little embarrassing, and occasionally depressing. Indeed, they manage to squeeze in a great deal of light and shade as they follow a variety of folk on their way to the Bachelor and Spinster's ball in Elmore, in regional Victoria. MH

Bang. Bang. Bang. No, not gunfire. That's the three major plot threads being presented to us before the opening credits with mechanical efficiency. Likewise, great chunks of the dialogue appear to have been generated by a piece of inexpensive software. In the past, although always firmly in the easily-digestible prime-time drama mould, the story of three generations of New York law enforcement officers has tackled some ethical and philosophical issues with surprising subtlety but in this particular episode no one seems to be really bothering. On the upside, a personable cast – including Tom Selleck, Will Estes, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bridget Moynahan – always make Blue Bloods worth watching, as does its comforting sense of family, community, and the triumph of right.
