What's on TV: Thursday June 14
This surfing movie with a difference is a coming-of-age tale set in South Africa in 1989 against the backdrop of civil unrest and apartheid. The boys at the heart of the story, unlikely surfer Otelo Buthelezi (Jafta Mamabolo), his younger brother and his best friend, are every young man yearning for freedom except their dreams of a better life are bolder than most. Equal parts uplifting and devastating.
Season one's everlasting bloom, Poh Ling Yeow, drops in, along with season-two star Callum Hann, to conduct a masterclass at the Adelaide markets. It's a big plug for South Australian produce and, no doubt for the guest chefs' own enterprises, but nonetheless a cheerful celebration of food. Elsewhere, George Calombaris cooks a prawn properly, then plops it on toast.
Season final ★★★★
Revenge is a big driver in this women's prison drama that weaves together audacious plotlines of Greek tragedy proportions. In this jaw-dropping finale of the season, a righteous revenge is wreaked in a life-changing instant and, damn, is it satisfying. This clever remake of the original Prisoner also drops the first of many revelations that no one saw coming. Bring on season two.
