It's geek heaven as Julia Zemiro and Professor Brian Cox return for another three nights of live stargazing from the Siding Spring Observatory in NSW. It's packed with fun facts, amazing stories and gorgeous visuals, and tonight we start discussing the solar system. Tomorrow night it's deep space, and Thursday, space exploration. There's plenty of viewer involvement too. Last year amateur Australian stargazers discovered a new solar system; this year we're hunting for supernovae.

Would you be able to tell your favourite brand from a cheaper, generic version if you couldn't see the label? That's one of the fun experiments in this cheerful – and useful – factual series. The shocking truth about how much cash we have in our pantries in the form of unused food; the hideous annual spend of people addicted to takeaway; and the financial cost of impulse buys all come under the microscope as Ben O'Donoghue and Leila McKinnon show households how to slash their food expenses without affecting their lifestyle.
Full of fabulous characters and great local lingo – not to mention spectacular landscapes – Outback Truckers fits beautifully into the genre for which it's made. On the downside, it mimics the repetitive editing that's a hallmark of other similar series, so in tonight's instalment, for instance, we learn on three separate occasions that Russell the Crusher doesn't have the correct widget to enable him to move diesel from his reserve tank into the fuel tank – when the revelation was not that interesting the first time round.
