Who is Chris Stark and why is he leaving Radio 1? | The Sun

SCOTT Mills and Chris Stark struggled to hold back tears as they hosted their final Radio 1 show on August 25, 2022.

After long stints at the station, the pair revealed they are both leaving for new ventures.

Who is Chris Stark?

Christopher Francis Stark is a British radio personality born on March 12, 1987.

He was raised in Pinner, North-West London.

He is best known for his work as the co-host on popular radio shows such as the Scott Mills radio show and That Peter Crouch Podcast.

Stark started working at Radio Northwick Park when he was 16 and gained experience working at stations including Galaxy, Real Radio, Virgin Radio and BBC 6 Music.

At 18, he attended the University of Southampton where he studied politics and zoology.

While at Southampton, Stark was given his own show on the student radio station, Surge.

What radio shows has Chris Stark hosted?

Stark officially joined the Scott Mills show in April 2012, but occasionally appeared on the show as "Scott's friend Chris" for a period of time prior to this.

He appeared in most of the show's ongoing features including Real or No Real, Innuendo Bingo, 24 Years at the Tap End, and Bamboleo Wednesday.

On July 1, 2022, it was announced that Mills and Stark would both be leaving Radio 1 after 24 years and 10 years on air respectively.

Why is Chris Stark leaving Radio 1 and who is replacing him?

Chris announced that he would be leaving Radio 1 in August 2022 in order to pursue new projects. 

He is off to join Roman Kemp on the Capital Breakfast show.

In his new job, he will not only be a presenter but a creative executive producer as well.

The 35-year-old is also set to take up a new role in Global’s podcast division, to develop sports content for Global Player, Global’s digital radio and podcast listening service.

Speaking about joining Capital, he said: "I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Global, working across a variety of amazing projects.

"I’ve known Roman a long time and often joked over a beer it’d be great to work together on something big one day – and now here we are."

He added: "I cannot wait to get started on Capital Breakfast and in my new creative executive producer role. Let’s make some moments.

"And then to be asked to lead on Global Player’s sports podcast content is just the icing on the cake."

Dean McCullough and Vicky Hawkesworth will replace Stark and Mills as they leave the station.

Is Chris Stark married and does he have any children?

Stark married his wife Ria in 2018.

Not much is known about the pair as they like to keep their relationship private.

In July 2020, Chris announced he had become a father for the second time, writing: "Our little lad is here. My wife is incredible."
