EastEnders on BBC One is continuing its tradition of celebrity cameos on the show with its recent announcement Harry Redknapp will be visiting the square. Fans can expect the cameo to happen this summer. But who is Harry Redknapp playing in the soap?
Who is Harry Redknapp playing?
Yesterday, May 4, EastEnders announced that Harry Redknapp would be appearing in the show.
The former West Ham manager will be making an appearance in the show this summer to coincide with the European Championships.
Redknapp who is also a fan of the soap, will join Albert Square just as a brief cameo, though it isn’t confirmed how large his role will be.
It is not yet confirmed if Redknapp will be playing himself or portraying a character, though it is more likely to be the former.
There isn’t an exact date yet for when he will step foot onto the show, though it will be between June 11th and July 11th, when the European Championships take place.
Express.co.uk will update this story when more details are confirmed.
It had been previously revealed by The Sun that Redknapp was seen on set, filming several scenes.
He was seen with Danny Dyer, who plays Mick Carter in the series.
Fans will know this is an appropriate meeting for the two as Carter has a framed West Ham shirt on his wall.
The football star is excited to be making a cameo on the show, having been a fan of the BBC soap for years.
Redknapp said: “It’s no secret that I’ve wanted to be in EastEnders so I’m over the moon to be making a special cameo this summer.”
“With a nod to the Euros, it’s a lovely fit and as a proper East Londoner, it’s been so much fun,” Redknapp continued.
EastEnders film their scenes months in advance, so despite already filming his scenes fans will have to wait a few months before they see him in the show.
The series Executive Producer, Jon Sen, also expressed his excitement over the surprise big cameo.
He commented: “What a better way to mark a special summer for football fans by having none other than West Ham legend Harry Redknapp pay a visit to Walford.”
He added: “He’s synonymous with London’s East End and we are delighted to hear he’s a fan of the show too.”
EastEnders is no stranger to bringing in big-name celebrities to make an appearance on Albert Square.
Previous cameos include Robbie Williams, David Walliams, Nick Grimshaw, and even Boris Johnson.
EastEnders airs weekdays BBC One.
