Who is Josh O'Connor? Lawrence actor in The Durrells who will play Prince Charles in The Crown series three

Netflix has confirmed the rising star will be playing a young Prince Charles in The Crown, for what is set to be a key period in the Prince of Wales' history, but what else do we know about the actor?

Who is Josh O'Connor?

Josh, 28, was born on May 20, 1990, and is an English actor.

He is best known known for his portrayal of Johnny Saxby in the 2017 film God's Own Country, directed by Francis Lee, for which he won a British Independent Film Award for Best Actor.

The star is also well-loved for playing Lawrence on ITV hit show The Durrells.

But he has also had roles as PC Bobby Grace on Ripper Street and as Ada's housemates James in Peaky Blinders.

Is Josh O'Connor going to be in The Crown?

Josh will play Prince Charles in the upcoming third and fourth seasons of The Crown, covering the years 1964-1970 when Charles was aged between 16 and 22.

Speaking about portraying Prince Charles, he told The Hollywood Reporter: "I am thrilled to be joining The Firm for the next installment of The Crown.

"Seasons three and four will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales' life and our national story, and I'm excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all."

Josh added: "I'm very aware it's a formidably talented family to be joining but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in."
