But behind closed doors the TV star endured a terrible loss when his beloved wife died.

Who is Simon Thomas?

Simon Thomas was born in Cromer, Norfolk, on January 26, 1973.

After leaving school, he went to Birmingham University, where he graduated with a degree in history.

But it was after leaving uni he decided to peruse a career in broadcasting.

Simon started out as a runner on Children's BBC and the radio station LBC where he worked as a runner, before heading into the world of TV presenter.

What TV shows has Simon Thomas been on?

Simon shot to fame hosting Blue Peter from 1999 until 2005, which got him recognised in the world of TV presenting.

He co-presented with Stuart Miles, Katy Hill, Konnie Huq, Matt Baker, Liz Barker and Zöe Salmon.

Simon then joined Sky Sports in June 2005, presenting the 3-7pm shift on Sky Sports News.

He has also presented Cricket AM on Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports News Cricket World Cup Report, the Mosconi Cup from Las Vegas, Sky Sports World Cup report from Cape Town in 2010 and Sky Sports News coverage of the 2010 Ryder Cup.

He became the lead presenter of Sky Sports' live Football League coverage at the start of the 2010/2011 Football Season.

Simon also took part in a three-part mini series for This Morning called Pursuits of Happiness.

The series showed three different activities people took part in to overcome and deal with their mental health issues.

Who was Simon's wife Gemma?

Simon married his late wife Gemma Thomas back in 2005.

On November 24, 2017, she died just three days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Simon described his first birthday since losing his wife as “the unhappiest” of days in a poignant note to his son.

He wrote: “Today is going to be the unhappiest of birthdays for Daddy with Mummy no longer here.

“But, know this my dear boy. You make me so happy and I love you more than all the Lego in the world.”

Who is Simon's second wife Derrina Jebb?

In November 2018, Simon shared that he was in a new relationship with Derrina Jebb, who has been an "incredible support" to him.

Talking on BBC Radio 5 Live at the time, he said: "Right from the early stages – she had this empathy towards me.

She’s Christian as well and that’s important to me as a man of faith.

"She’s been an incredible support for me. She was the only person who would always pick up the phone."

In July 2021, Simon and Derrina married at Norwich Cathedral.

Does Simon Thomas have children?

Simon has two children – a son from his first marriage to his late wife, Gemma, and daughter with Derrina.

Ethan was born in 2009, and was just eight years old when his mum passed away.

In October 2022, Simon announced the birth of his daughter, who was eight weeks premature.
