Ex-con Walker earned the trust of the Dutton family when he took a job on Yellowstone ranch in season two. However, some fans are convinced the ranch owners should tread carefully when the unpredictable Western drama returns to Paramount next year.

The third season of Yellowstone left fans with plenty to ponder during the excruciating wait for the series to return next year.

Following a devastating attack on John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family, the powerful ranch owners will be more paranoid than ever heading into the next instalment.

With the fates of John, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) up in the air, someone could meet their grisly end in season four.

Moreover, some viewers are convinced the Duttons have been treating reformed convict Walker too kindly after spotting a mysterious clue.

The Duttons have plenty of dark secrets that could destroy their entire empire if made public, especially their giant ditch of dead bodies codenamed the ‘train station’.

In season two, Rip (Cole Hauser) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) concocted a scheme to take Walker to the train station when he proved to be too untrustworthy to keep alive.

However, the ex-con made his miraculous return in season three, whereupon he started asking some suspicious questions about the shadiest part of Dutton ranch.

Over on Reddit, some fans suggested Walker could be the key to the Duttons’ downfall in a future instalment.

Redditor Dirtiestlarry posted: “Not seeing much about this, but what’s the angle they’re going to play with Walker?

“He was asking some pretty suspicious questions when they were dumping bodies at the train station. He’s going to try and out the Duttons for murders etc?”

In the penultimate episode of season three, Meaner Than Evil, Walker is kidnapped by Rip and Lloyd Pierce (Forrie J Smith) to help them with some dirty work.

The posse take their revenge on neighbouring rancher Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) after discovering he was conspiring with their shrewd rival Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway).

After prying a confession out of Wade and stringing him up, Walker presses the gang for more information about the deep, dark pit of bodies.

As well as asking why they chose this area to dispose of the Duttons’ competitors, he then questions: “So how many people have you dumped out there?”

Despite warning Walker he’d also end up at the bottom of the pit if he tried anything funny, some fans think the Yellowstone gang should have retorted with an interrogation of their own.

Walker’s suspect behaviour in this moment has led some viewers to believe he could have been wearing a wire, either for the police or one of the ranch’s several rivals.

Another fan added: “The way he asked those questions made me wonder if he was wearing a wire or something.

“Seems pretty suspicious to be asking questions like that and the fact Lloyd didn’t ask or pause when he was asked.”

However, other fans have given Walker the benefit of the doubt and proposed his line of questioning was intended to catch up anyone in the audience who might need a refresher from the last season.

Still, after the crushing blow the Duttons suffered in the season three finale, it’s easy to imagine the family won’t be ruling anyone out as a potential suspect when they start to plot their revenge.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount.
