Young Sheldon is the heartwarming comedy about the childhood of self-proclaimed genius Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage) who originally came from The Big Bang Theory. The spin-off has become a hit in its own right on CBS with various guest stars over the years including Melissa Peterman, Richard Kind, Sarah Baker, Elon Musk and Billy Gardell. Here’s everything we know so far about who will be popping up in season five.

Who are the guest stars of season 5 of Young Sheldon?

Pastor Rob – Dan Byrd

Starring in the second episode of Young Sheldon, Snoopin’ Around and the Wonder Twins of Atheism, is actor Dan Byrd.

He will portray Pastor Rob who, going by the synopsis, will be quizzed on the Bible by Missy (Raegan Revord).

One of actor Byrd’s most prominent roles was in A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff in 2004.

Some of his other roles have been in The Hills Have Eyes, Easy A and Norman and Cougar Town.

Pastor Steve – Andrew Patrick Ralston

Joining Byrd in season five’s second instalment of Young Sheldon is Andrew Patrick Ralston as Pastor Steve.

The American actor has featured in numerous well-known films over the years.

These include Lethal Weapon, The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

His latest role was in Starz thriller series Gaslit as a character called Chennault.

Officer Smith – Anthony M. Bertram

Actor Anthony M. Bertram will be in the third episode of season five Potential Energy and Hooch on a Park Bench as Officer Smith.

While he hasn’t had a major part in any show or film just yet, Bertram has made quite a few onscreen appearances.

The actor has had a minor part in The Millers, CSI: Cyber, Rizzoli & Isles, Nashville, Ray Donovan and Grey’s Anatomy just to list a few.

One of his most recent parts was this year in Amazon Prime Video’s Modern Love as the dad in A Life Plan for Two, Followed by One.

He portrayed Billy Sparks, the neighbour and friend of Sheldon and Missy in season four.

McClure will be back but this time as a series regular for season five.

His other acting credits include Alex, Inc, Teachers, I See You and The Terror of Hallow’s Eve.

Young Sheldon is coming back for its fifth outing but it won’t be stopping there.

CBS has already given the green light for the comedy to return for not one but two more series.

Season seven of Young Sheldon is expected to premiere sometime in 2024.

Young Sheldon will return for season 5 on Thursday, October 7, at 8pm on CBS. A UK release date hasn’t been announced.
