'Adored' grandad and ex-soldier, 86, dies after thug smashed his nose outside his home as teen arrested for murder
A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 86-year-old veteran died following an assault outside of his home.
Frank Fishwick passed away on Saturday morning after he was attacked on Friday in Preston.
Officers attended the scene at The Paddock, Fulwood, around 3pm where Frank had been found with a facial injury – later diagnosed as a fractured nose.
He was later taken to hospital but sadly died the next day.
A post mortem examination found his cause of death to be as a consequence of his injuries, the Lancashire Post reported.
Police have now launched a murder investigation following a number of enquiries.
A 19-year-old man from Preston was arrested today on suspicion of murder where he remains in custody.
Police confirmed that the victim's next of kin have been informed.
Lancashire Police are appealing for anybody who witnessed the assault or anyone with information to contact them immediately.
Frank's family paid tribute to the "adored father and grandfather" following the assault outside of his home in Preston.
"An adored father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by family and friends," the statement read.
"He served in the Army Royal Corps of Engineers and committed his working life to Leyland Motors.
"He was well-liked by his friends, offered a helping hand when needed and his humour brought cheer to many.
"Our thanks are extended to Lancashire Police who are working tireless to bring justice to an unforgivable act of violence."
