Andrew Yang joins CNN as a political commentator
Andrew Yang, who ended his long-shot Democratic presidential bid last week, has joined CNN as a political commentator, the network announced Wednesday.
The 45-year-old Schenectady native, who began his career as an attorney, later worked in various startups and founded Venture for America, a nonprofit group focused on creating jobs.
Yang, whose quixotic presidential campaign was characterized by catchy slogans such as “Make America Think Harder (MATH),” had pledged a universal basic income, which would give every US citizen $1,000 a month.
His bid was focused not on party tribalism like his Democratic peers, but on how tech automation will threaten millions of American jobs.
Yang, who cultivated an army of devoted followers dubbed the “Yang Gang,” dropped out of the race a week after finishing in sixth place in the Iowa caucus, with less than 1 percent of the delegates.
Early results from the New Hampshire primary showed him trailing all of the other candidates.
