A pregnant bride and her new husband were rushed to hospital on their wedding day after a dramatic car crash – but made it back in time to celebrate their reception.

Chelsea Harvey, 23, and husband Shane Harvey, 27, were driving from their ceremony to the reception when their Skoda crashed and flipped in snowfall.

The shaken couple suffered cuts and bruises but their unborn baby was unharmed and they returned to their reception to cheers from their guests.

Chelsea, who was pregnant at the time, and her husband were rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to be checked over. The couple escaped with cuts and bruises and their unborn baby was unharmed

But the family ended up in the same hospital again hours later when Chelsea’s stepdaughter, Isabell, six, ran into a table and sliced open her nose at the reception.

The schoolgirl was treated by the same paramedics who attended the crash just hours earlier – and taken to hospital so the wound could be glued shut.

Now the couple, from Newbury, Berkshire, are planning to hold the reception again – six months later – with extra guest, their baby Emica, who was born a week early in May.

Chelsea said: ‘Everyone told us how lucky we were for me, my husband and our baby all to survive with just cuts and bruises and aches. ‘I believe someone was watching down on us that day’

‘I believe someone was watching down on us that day.

‘We missed three hours of our party to then be there for just under two hours before my step daughter ran into the table and busted her nose.

‘The same paramedics that attended us earlier that day were there again and again we were off to hospital.

‘It’s not the wedding I had in mind I must admit – our wedding night was pretty much in hospital – but I’m just amazed that someone was watching over us.’

Following Chelsea and delivery driver Shane’s wedding ceremony in March 2018, the groom drove them between venues in a red Skoda Fabia to save money.

But they slid on ice and their car overturned dramatically in Thatcham, Berkshire, and were left hanging upside down in their full wedding gear.

They returned to their reception at the grounds of Thatcham FC, but ended up in the same hospital again hours later when Chelsea’s stepdaughter, Isabell, six, ran into a table and sliced open her nose

Fortunately the best man James Bremner was travelling behind in convoy and dialled 999 while they crawled out and the young family were rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital to be checked over.

Shane was breathalysed by police at the scene and Chelsea underwent an emergency scan to see if the baby had been harmed.

Autism practitioner Chelsea said: ‘My main priority was the baby.

‘I climbed out of the car screaming ”I’m pregnant”.

Following the ordeal, venue bosses have allowed the couple to rent it again for free for the second reception on September 15

‘The other driver let me sit in their car as I was shaking, and told police we weren’t speeding or anything.’

Her worried bridesmaids had been driving ahead, and feared the worst when they heard that a red car had been involved in a crash.

The couple suffered some cuts and bruises but eventually arrived at the reception, at the grounds of Thatcham FC, three hours late – to the cheers of guests.

Just two hours later stepdaughter, Isabell, six, ran into a table and the couple dialled 111 due to the amount of blood coming from her nose.

The whole family went to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital so the wound could be glued shut.

The wedding photographer also agreed to waive their fee and the DJ offered them a £100 discount.

‘It will be like the wedding day celebrations, part two,’ Chelsea said.

‘I still can’t drink as I’m breastfeeding.

‘The day was as good as it could be. We told everyone to carry on the party.’
