Brits putting out bins will help UK get to Net Zero as army of collectors go green

BRITS and businesses putting out their bins will help the UK hit its eco goals – as a new army of bin collectors goes green.

One of the UK's largest waste firms, Viridor, today announced that it will take huge strides towards hitting net zero by stripping all dirty greenhouse gas emissions out of their firm by 2040.

The waste sector is the seventh biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses in the UK, but all firms have to make huge strides to help Britain get to Net Zero emissions by 2050.

By 2045 their plan is to go even further and remove more man-made greenhouse gases from the air than it produces.

The company, which mainly specialises in business waste but services councils in the North West too, will help create 650 jobs in Runcorn in today's plan.

The firm will use carbon capturing tech to suck dirty pollution from the air and store it deep underground.

They will use turn any leftover waste which can't be recycled or reused into energy as part of fresh bids to help the planet.

Britain's businesses are going greener in an attempt to help clean up the planet ahead of the UK hosting the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow later this year.

The firm is calling for the government to do even more to expand financing for carbon capture to help green Britain’s waste.

Kevin Bradshaw, Chief Executive Officer of Viridor said: “Tackling climate change is the biggest issue of our generation and there is no time to lose.
