China successfully launched a geostationary communications satellite into space from Sichuan Province early on Friday morning.
Impressive footage and images show the Zhongxing-2D satellite taking off on a Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre at exactly 1.11am local time.
The satellite has now entered its predetermined orbit and will provide transmissions for Chinese broadcasting services, including the country’s radio and television stations, wireless transmitters and cable networks.
It also has possible military applications, NASA said.
The satellite, developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, has entered the preset orbit.

The Zhongxing-2D satellite and Long March-3B carrier rocket were both developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
China launched a record-breaking 39 orbital missions in 2018, and Friday morning’s was the 298th mission of the Long March rocket series.
