Dad ‘stabs wife to death as their two young kids watch on and try to stop him’

A man has been charged for allegedly stabbing his wife to death, while his kids watched on and tried to stop him.

John Erickson, 41, was charged with killing Utahna Erickson, 41, after her body was found in the master bedroom of their home.

Cops were called to the home in Salt Lake County, Utah, and found blood splattered everywhere.

Erickson also had cuts to his arm and neck, and according to The Salt Lake Tribune, he had admitted to trying to take his own life after the killing.

At the time of the fatal attack, the couple's son, 11, and daughter, seven, were at home – they had tried to intervene.

The seven-year-old daughter told cops she heard her mum screaming before seeing her be stabbed by her dad.

While trying to stop him she was cut with the knife and sustained “extensive injury to her fingers,” requiring surgery.

Documents state the young girl had "blood on her face and clothes, and severe cuts on her hand," reports People magazine.

The son had also tried to prevent the attack, he reportedly kicked and punched his dad before running to the neighbour to get help.

Speaking to officers, he said: "It was my dad that made it happen.”

People magazine reports Erickson said he "just f**king snapped" at "one of the sweetest people around."

A complaint also stated: "[John Erickson] admitted that he cut Utahna’s throat and knew she was going to die.”

Erickson is also charged with child abuse, domestic violence in the presence of a child.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on November 12, reports Crime Online.
